Private Pay

Why I'm private pay.

Oak & Wave Counseling is a private-pay practice. I've made the intentional choice not to accept insurance — not because I don't value access, but because of the freedom it creates in the room with you.

When insurance is involved, the insurance company becomes a third party in our work. They decide what counts as a "medically necessary" diagnosis, how many sessions you're allowed, what modalities are approved, and what details of our conversations they can request to keep coverage active. Stepping outside of that system gives both of us room to actually focus on you.

·

No required diagnosis

Insurance requires me to assign you a billable mental health diagnosis from your very first session — and that diagnosis lives on your medical record permanently. Private pay means we can focus on what's actually happening in your life without needing to label it.

·

Your privacy stays protected

Without insurance involvement, our sessions stay between us. There are no claims, no chart audits, and no records released to a third party that could later affect things like life insurance, disability coverage, or security clearances.

·

Care guided by you, not a plan

Insurance dictates how often we meet, how long sessions can be, and which approaches are 'approved.' Private pay means we choose together what serves you — weekly, bi-weekly, extended sessions, or shorter check-ins as life requires.

·

Freedom in how I show up

I'm not bound by insurance company guidelines about which modalities I can use or how I document our work. I can integrate CBT, ACT, EFT, IFS, mindfulness, and somatic work in whatever combination genuinely fits you — not what a reviewer will approve.

·

Time spent with you, not on paperwork

Insurance requires hours of authorizations, justifications, and audits. Private pay lets me carry a smaller, more intentional caseload — which means more presence, better continuity, and a therapist who isn't burned out by the system.

·

An honest, equal relationship

When you're investing directly in the work, you're the client — not a claim number. That naturally creates a more collaborative, accountable, and honest relationship between the two of us.

All of this means our work together is shaped by what you actually need — not by what a plan will authorize.

My Commitment

I will always work as hard
as you do.

Therapy is a partnership. The effort you bring into the room — the honesty, the willingness to sit with what's hard, the courage to keep showing up — I will match every step of the way.

I am committed to making sure you walk away from each session having gotten as much out of it as you want and need. Whether that means going deep, slowing down, sitting in something uncomfortable, or building a concrete plan — your time, your investment, and your trust will never be taken lightly.

Payment & Policies

Simple & clear.

  • • Payment is due at the time of session
  • • Cash, check, and all major credit cards accepted
  • • HSA and FSA cards welcome
  • • Out-of-network benefits: I'm happy to provide a superbill you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement
  • • Cancellations must be made by 12:00 PM the day before your scheduled session — this gives me enough notice to offer your spot to clients on my cancellation list. Cancellations after that time, or missed sessions, will be billed the full session fee.
  • • Free 15-minute phone consultation before scheduling
